UPDATE: As of 30 March 2016, the government has stopped funding and the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund is closed to new applications. You can read about it here.
Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) – latest news on relaunch
We have just had official confirmation from DECC that the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (or GDHIF as it is more commonly known) is due to relaunch on the 10th December 2014 at 9am.
An additional £30m of funding has been made available by the Government for this second phase of the scheme – although it is now split into two pots, £24m for solid wall insulation and £6m for the two measures from the list of home improvements under the scheme.
What are the Headline GDHIF changes for this 2nd round of funding?
The relaunch of GDHIF this December will see a reduction in the amount of funding available for solid wall insulation – this has been reduced from £6,000 under the old scheme to £4,000 under the revised version. It also will now only cover 67% of the total cost of works, while under the old scheme it covered 75%.
While the funding is obviously lower, in our opinion it is still a fantastic time to take advantage of the offer if you live in a solid wall property!
The other major change this time round is that flue gas heat recovery units are not allowed, therefore people installing boilers with these units will no longer be able to do so. You will however still be able to install a boiler + another measure and get the £1,000 back.
The £100 towards the Green Deal Report is still in place (which allows you to access GDHIF) as well as the £500 new home owners bonus for those that have bought a property in the last 12 months.
This means you can still get a non-means tested grant totalling £5,600 to improve the energy efficiency of your home – so pretty good in out opinion.
If you want to learn more about the relaunched GDHIF scheme, please go to our main page which can be accessed by clicking here. This provides details about the eligibility requirements for the scheme as well as detailing the different measures you can get installed.
GDHIF Case Studies and Success Stories
When the previous GDHIF was live, TheGreenAge facilitated 1000’s of successful Green Deal Assessments, and with our partners in the Greater London area, we carried out 100’s of successful installations including heating systems, solid wall insulation and cavity wall insulation to name but a few.
You can see more detailed case studies of some of our installations by clicking here. Below however is a small snapshot of what has been successfully installed (solid wall insulation, high energy efficient boilers and double glazing):
GDHIF – how do I apply?
When the previous scheme was up and running, earlier in 2014, it proved to be extremely popular and in fact over subscribed, resulting in the funds being spent rather too quickly. Many customers were disappointed to miss out on the vouchers, which has probably prompted the Government to act and re-instate the scheme.
If you are interested in the GDHIF and would like some more information please sign-up using the form below and we will call you back to discuss a few more details. Otherwise if you have any other questions please send us an email us to: mailbox@thegreenage.co.uk. Otherwise stay tuned to these pages for further updates.
Remember, our Green Deal Assessments are just £132, but if you decide to go through with the GDHIF scheme you are eligible for a £100 rebate on the cost of assessment so the total cost to you is just £32!
Think we missed something? Do you have a different opinion?
Comment below to get your voice heard…
Do you know what is happening in Scotland? As far I understand this £100m allocated is going to England & Wales. Not sure if they will have the same thing here.
Hi Trevor. No news as yet, however sit tight and there should be a parallel scheme for Scotland that will be released soon.
I heard that the methodology and software used to create EPCs is being updated from early November to make them more accurate. This will allow the EPC and/or GDAR to make more recommendations than they can today. Wouldn’t it be better to thus wait till November to get the GDAR (when rdsap 9.92 is being used)?
Also, I’ve already had one measure carried out on the GDHIF scheme. Will I be able to reapply for more measures?
Hi Josh,
Thanks for the question. We are still waiting to hear from our accreditation body the exact changes to the EPCs and how this will affect people’s recommendations – we will be posting a blog on this oin the next week or two as soon as we hear. We also don’t know the exact structure of the gdhif scheme, whether the numbers will be the same or whether the format is changing completely. I think it is very unlikely having a measure installed already will affect you being able to claim again however. This was not an issue in the past.
This is great news. I only heard about the GDhIF cashback scheme a day or so before the government scrapped it. Ready and primed to take advantage this time though!
We did the same as you stu. A gov scheme only lasting 6 days is stupid. Going to take it up this time though!
Hi Scott, the sudden closure took us a little bit by surprise too to be honest. Anyway be sure to be ready for it this time! Head over to our local Green Deal Assessor page to find an assessor near you. You can access it by clicking here.
Hi, I was one of the lucky ones that managed to get the full £6000 towards solid wall insulation. But after going through several companies for quotes, I finally found one that I believe I can trust. Unfortunately they are very busy now and with the bad weather approaching they aren’t sure if they can complete or even start the job until the new year. This wouldn’t be a problem for me, except the voucher expires in January.
My question is this, does the clock on the voucher stop when the contract is issued, started or comp!eted?
I have tried to contact Green Deal people but I’m not getting a response.
Hi Alan, I will send you an email to see if we can help with anything. Even if it’s just to provide you the clarification information. Thanks
Hi, does the scheme cover rental properties as well? I’m a landlord refurbishing a property and am looking for an efficient heating system. Thanks.
Hi Richard, it does cover rental properties yes. Get in touch if you would like us to sort a Green Deal Assessment.
Hi,has a date been confirmed for the relaunch yet?,now you have assesed my property sitting here ready to go 🙂
Hi Mark,
Nothing yet – we know it is in November and we spoke to DECC and they said an announcement is imminent (so we are expecting 11:59pm on 30th November!)
We are going to let everyone know that we have assessed as soon as it goes live.
I hope they allow you to take a single measure under this scheme. We are desperate for a new boiler!
Hi Pete thanks for your comment. We have been in touch with DECC about GDHIF, but they are keeping their cards very close to their chest! The second we hear anything, we will share it with you on this post and on our main GDHIF page.
Hello, when is the Green Deal going to launch? I have paid for an assessment and I am waiting on the Government help. Thank you
Hi Ajay, We are not sure to be honest! I assume you are referring to the GDHIF scheme – the Government said they will announce it before the end of November so fingers crossed we here back in the next couple of days!
Hi, any sign of an announcement? should I be getting a survey done before the details are released?
Hi Mark,
There are mutterings that we may get an announcement today, but who knows! It is coming soon and we will let everyone know via our blogs as soon as it does.
Is it possible to find out if I qualify for a grant BEFORE I spend a lot of money on a survey – or is it a Catch 22 situation where I HAVE to buy a survey before I can find out that possibly I do not qualify?
Thanks
Hi Peter,
Its not really a question of qualifying. Everyone is eligible for the scheme (no benefit criteria or anything of that sort), but it depends on what you already have in your property as to what you will get a grant for.
If you give the assessor organisation a call, they should be able to talk you through the scheme and give you an idea what you might get out of the assessment. With a few details of your property and what you are lookin for, they should be able to let you know whether you will benefit.
All the best,
Alan
To be fair what a massive joke 2nd time round in waiting again for funding and surprise surpriseno money left in pot after been relaunched 2 days ago total joke.
Hi Louise, I know it is absolutely terrible – boom and bust policies. It is really difficult for the industry as well, as most just want a stable scheme they can deliver to. This is what we thought of all the shambles yesterday: http://www.thegreenage.co.uk/gdhif-phase-2-solid-wall-insulation-grant-gone-30-hours/
Having said all this, you will have another opportunity in February when the new funding gets released.
Wow. Thanks for sharing this article with us. It was very informative. Actually, it’ just what I needed to read. Looking forward to more articles from you.
